What You Should Know About Swimming Pool Types

Commercial and residential property owners are opting to install inground pools. That’s because it’s warm in the region most of the year. So, the most suitable type of swimming pool to install is the inground pool. Aside from that, this pool type is known to last longer than an above ground pool.

A swimming pool is an ideal option to beat the sweltering summer heat. Before you decide to install one, it will be beneficial if you take the time to understand the different pool types. This will help you choose the right one for your family’s needs and your budget.

Above Ground Swimming Pool

The usual diameter of the above ground swimming pool is 10 to 30 feet. Compared to an inground pool, this is easier to install because it will not require you to dig up your backyard in Utah or any other place. The construction requires pre-fabricated kits. There are two types of an above ground swimming pool:

  • Soft-sided pool: If you’re a parent who doesn’t like spending a fortune on a pool, this one is right for you. As a smaller type of the above ground swimming pool, the soft-sided pool is portable and is made of rubber or latex. It is easy to install, sturdy, and won’t break the bank.
  • Hard-sided pool: This pool type is costlier to install but is more durable than the soft-sided one. The materials needed to build this one include metals and fiberglass.

Inground Swimming Pool

Residential swimming pool

Most inground swimming pools are more pleasing to the eyes than above ground pools. This is one of the reasons it’s popular in Utah. The inground swimming pool is below the ground level and can last longer than the above ground pool. One of its advantages is the endless size options. There are four types of inground swimming pools, including

  • Vinyl-lined inground pool: Soil is dug out to make the frame for this pool type. Then, the sand will be put at the bottom. Other materials that line with the vinyl liner are wood, metal, or plastic walls. Take note that the vinyl lining requires a replacement every ten years.
  • Fiberglass inground pool: The body of the pool is made of fiberglass, which is lowered into space. You need a professional swimming pool builder to install this one. The good thing about this type of pool is that it’s less likely to have a bacterial or algal attack. In addition, replastering and repainting are not necessary.
  • Poured concrete inground swimming pool: The construction requires a wooden pool mold to pour concrete into. After laying the concrete, the frame is detached. Even though building this one is time-consuming, this is the best type of inground pool because you can come up with your desired layout.
  • Gunite Pool: You need a steel reinforcing rod framework — rebar rods — to build a gunite pool. A heavy gunite coating is sprayed to the structure. The mixture includes water, sand, and cement. A week is needed before you can add the plaster to achieve a smooth finish.

Installing a pool is a creative addition to your property. Work with professionals to ensure a safe, cost-efficient, and successful installation process.
